West Dundee Library
ARC 351 FALL 2023 Prof. Alan Frost
Project Statement
In a rapidly changing world, libraries must evolve from traditional book repositories into community hubs that inspire curiosity and innovation. This design for the West Dundee library is rooted in the FRVPLD (Fox River Valley Public Library District) mission to bridge diverse communities through the joy of discovery. The challenge is to create a vibrant center of connection, growth, and endless learning, a "third space" that seamlessly integrates high-quality physical collections with robust digital infrastructure. By focusing on "Presence," the project aims to optimize the library experience through flexible environments that align with the evolving needs of both community members and staff. The design seeks to identify and reduce barriers to service, ensuring free and equal access to information while serving as a sustainable, transparent, and recognizable pillar of the West Dundee community.
